suetables - silver with character

sue henderson bowen

For over 10 years, Sue worked in the television industry before turning to jewelry design as a more personal means of expression. Her experience in reputation building and management, working with experts, actors, designers, chefs and artists has helped her build Suetables into a small, but recognized cottage-industry brand.

Sue describes her business as something that grew from, “a need for balance combined with my love of art, beauty and words.” Inspired by a hand-stamped vintage knife she saw on the coast of Maine, Sue started hand stamping vintage silver baby spoons and butter knifes for gifts. Once she developed her hand-stamping skills, personalizing sterling silver and gold jewelry was a natural evolution that provided an outlet for her creativity.

Suetables’ sterling silver jewelry is designed in Toronto and made in the mountains in Mexico. Sue or her sister, Kathy, personalize each pendant -- one letter or number at a time ensuring that each piece is unique and special.

As SickKids saved her friend Ben, Sue designed the Suetables' line for SickKids that sells on www.suetables.com for SickKids Hospital – her favourite charity. Proceeds benefit The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Due to her creativity, strong problem-solving skills and client-service focus, Kathy, Sue’s favourite (and only) sister, is a great addition to Suetables. With Sue, she designs and hand-stamps the Suetables line. Together, they travel to the mountains in Mexico to source suppliers and oversee production. On a day-to-day basis, Kathy also provides customer service for Suetables’ clients.

Kathy’s wealth of experience comes from working at ad and sales promotion agencies working with tier-one packaged goods and retail companies including Coca-Cola Ltd., Famous Players Theatres, Kraft Canada, Ocean Spray and Cadbury Canada.

Like Sue, Kathy left the corporate world to raise her two children. With an artists’ sensibility in her own right, Kathy’s creativity and eye for good design has helped build Suetables and grow their savvy cottage-industry clientele.

Kathy and Sue sell their jewelry in select stores, on line and, on occasion, at trunk shows where women can have their pendants personalized on site.
